Sometimes I think Game of Thrones is just gratuitous brutality for the sake of brutality. And then I see things like this.

Loved the book AND impressed by the film adaptation. Especially the poetic death of Seneca Crane, which I don’t think was in the books.

I don’t know what I’m going to do when I grow up, but whatever it is will involve living here.

The Alhambra - Granada, Spain
And to think - a year ago I was preparing for this adventure!
Awe at the architectural grandeur of centuries past. Spontaneous dancing in the Albayzin, overlooking a verdant valley crowded with flat white houses. Misadventures in the carnivals of Cádiz. Schwarma after class. Hiking in Cabo de Gata. - And, best of all, speaking competence in Spanish.
Tonight I think I’ll make sopa de ajo.

Trailers for Snow White and the Huntsman (2012) look visually stunning. Too bad they cast Kristen Stewart, who vaguely irritates me because of her heavy association with Twilight. I hope she wears more than the one bland face she wore for Twilight.

“He made them imagine that the earth - four thousand six hundred million years old - was a forty-six-year-old woman - as old, say, as Aleyamma Teacher, who gave them Malayalam lessons. It had taken the whole of the Earth Woman’s life for the earth to become what it was. For the oceans to part. For the mountains to rise. The Earth Woman was eleven years old, Chacko said, when the first single-celled organisms appeared. The first animals, creatures like worms and jellyfish, appeared only when she was forty. She was over forty-five - just eight months ago - when dinosaurs roamed the earth.
‘The whole of human civilization as we know it,’ Chacko told the twins, ‘began only two hours ago in the Earth Woman’s life…’”
